A sticking plaster? at www.fusion-coach.com

A sticking plaster?

I burned myself on the oven door…ouch!........that hurt.

I pulled back sharply but it was too late and I could already see a bright red mark starting to appear.

I ignored it and went on with my life.

Several days later, I glanced at my wrist and could see an impressive purple weald that had scabbed over. ‘Aaaah……..clear evidence of the body’s ability to heal itself’ I thought.

This is something I am always relaying to clients. ‘Your body knows how to heal itself….all by itself and you don’t have to do a thing about that. It has innate knowledge.
The parallel is clear. Your mind also knows how to heal……and sometimes you don’t need to do anything about that…it can happen all by itself.

And yet, a couple of days later, I was out shopping and suddenly noticed a steam of bright red blood trailing from my wrist and leaving tiny red splashes on my coat.
It occurred to me that I had not provided a safe environment for my burn to heal….a sticking plaster would have been useful protection while that was happening.

A plaster for this kind of injury would have been ideal…and a sensible precaution.

But what if it had been another kind of wound? What if I had fallen over in the garden and gashed my arm? Would it have been sensible to put a plaster on it or would it have been useful to examine the wound first, to see if there was some grit or dirt or something which might infect or fester?

Sometimes the wound needs closer examination. Sometimes it needs cleansing before covering and allowing for the healing to happen.

It’s not the sticking plaster which does the healing. Your body, your mind knows how to do that, given a healing environment.

Yet sometimes, we can put the plaster on too quickly…….cover it up before taking a good look.
Cleaning the wound out can feel painful……….but sometimes it has to be done.
